Why a Skin Patch Test?

Every skin is different. What works beautifully on one person may respond differently on another — and with Laser treatments, knowing how your skin reacts before committing to a full session is not just smart, it is the gold standard of safe, professional practice.

At Hannah Spa, we believe in complete transparency and genuine care for your skin. Our Laser Skin Patch Test gives you the confidence to proceed with your full treatment knowing exactly what to expect — no surprises, no uncertainty.

What’s Included

Your $90 Laser Skin Patch Test covers Laser treatment on a small, precisely defined area — carefully selected by your therapist to best represent how the full treatment zone will respond.

The entire session takes no more than 15 minutes — quick, straightforward, and comfortable with no anaesthetic required. In less time than it takes to have a coffee, you will have a real, accurate picture of exactly how your skin responds to Laser energy — and the confidence to move forward with your full treatment.

Your therapist will assess your skin’s response, discuss the results with you, and confirm the recommended settings and approach for your full treatment.

The $90 is Fully Redeemable

This is not an additional cost — it is an investment that comes straight back to you.

When you proceed with your full Laser treatment, your $90 Skin Patch Test fee is deducted directly from the total price of your full session. You pay for your confidence upfront, and it counts toward your complete treatment.

The Lasers We Use

CO2 Fractional Laser — Test area: 3×3cm or 4×4cm The gold standard for skin resurfacing. CO2 Fractional Laser targets the deeper layers of the dermis to stimulate intense collagen remodelling, visibly reducing deep wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, uneven texture, and sun damage. A 3×3cm or 4×4cm skin patch test confirms your skin’s healing response and ensures optimal settings are calibrated before full-face treatment.

Picosecond Laser — Pigmentation Removal — Test area: 3×3cm Darwin’s most advanced pigmentation Laser. The Picosecond Laser delivers ultra-short bursts of energy in trillionths of a second — shattering melanin deposits into microscopic particles that the body naturally eliminates, without the prolonged heat exposure of older Laser technologies. Effective on melasma, sunspots, freckles, age spots, and uneven skin tone. A 3×3cm skin patch test confirms your skin’s response and assesses pigmentation depth before treating a larger area.

Picosecond Laser — Birthmark Removal — Test area: 3×3cm Birthmarks can be safely and effectively treated with our advanced Picosecond Laser, which precisely targets the concentrated pigment within birthmark tissue without damaging the surrounding skin. The ultra-short pulse duration minimises heat exposure, reducing the risk of scarring or discolouration significantly compared to older Laser technologies. A 3×3cm skin patch test is performed first to assess pigment depth, skin response, and optimal energy settings before proceeding to the full treatment area.

Picosecond Laser — Vascular Removal (Red Pigment) — Test area: 3×3cm Redness, broken capillaries, spider veins, and vascular lesions are targeted with precision using our Picosecond Laser. The Laser energy is selectively absorbed by the red pigment in vascular tissue — collapsing the unwanted vessel while leaving the surrounding skin completely unaffected. Results are visible progressively as the body clears the treated vessels naturally. A 3×3cm skin patch test assesses vascular response and skin sensitivity before treating a wider area.

Picosecond Laser — Tattoo Removal — Test area: 3×3cm The most powerful tattoo removal technology available today. Picosecond pulses break down ink particles far more efficiently than traditional Q-switched Lasers — fewer sessions, faster clearance, and significantly less risk of scarring or hyperpigmentation. A 3×3cm patch test on a section of your tattoo reveals how your ink and skin respond before committing to a full removal programme. This is especially important for tattoos containing challenging ink colours such as green, blue, or yellow, which require precise energy calibration for safe and effective removal.

Is a Laser Skin Patch Test Right for You?

A skin patch test is strongly recommended if you have never had Laser treatment before, if you have a darker skin tone or a history of pigmentation changes, if you are treating a birthmark, vascular lesion, or complex tattoo for the first time, if you are unsure how your skin reacts to Laser energy, or if you simply want complete peace of mind before proceeding with a larger treatment area.

After Your Laser Skin Patch Test — Skin Care Instructions

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your skin heals beautifully, minimises the risk of complications, and delivers the best possible result from your Laser treatment.

Immediately After — First Few Hours

A cool sensation, mild redness, and slight swelling in the treated area are completely normal and expected. Do not touch, rub, or scratch the treated area under any circumstances. If the area feels warm or uncomfortable, apply a clean cold compress gently for short intervals — do not apply ice directly to the skin. Do not apply any makeup, skincare products, or creams to the treated area unless specifically recommended by your therapist.

First 24–48 Hours

Keep the treated area clean and dry. Gently cleanse with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and lukewarm water — no scrubbing, no exfoliating. Apply only the gentle healing cream or barrier repair product recommended by your therapist. Avoid hot showers, baths, saunas, steam rooms, or any activity that causes heavy sweating — heat will aggravate the treated skin. Do not pick, peel, or remove any flaking or crusting that forms — this is a natural part of the healing process and must be allowed to shed on its own. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours.

First 1–2 Weeks

Apply broad-spectrum SPF 50+ every single morning without exception — sun exposure on freshly Lasered skin can cause permanent pigmentation changes and must be avoided. Wear a hat and seek shade whenever outdoors. Continue using only gentle, non-active skincare — no retinol, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C serums, or exfoliating acids until the skin has fully settled. Avoid swimming pools, spa baths, and ocean water during the healing period as chlorine and bacteria can irritate and infect healing skin. Avoid waxing, Laser, IPL, or any other skin treatments on or near the patch test area until fully healed.

Ongoing Healing

Keep the area well moisturised throughout the healing phase — hydrated skin heals faster and more evenly. Drink plenty of water to support skin recovery from within. If you notice any unusual prolonged redness, blistering, intense itching, or signs of infection, contact Hannah Spa immediately for advice.

Most patch test areas heal fully within 5–14 days depending on the treatment type and your individual skin response. Your therapist will review the healed result before proceeding with your full treatment.
